Oh, herro!

Long time no see.
No point in making a huge update.
Perhaps I will use this thing more now that I'm getting a handle on being extremely busy...

Things that make me happy:

  • I lost 10 lbs.
  • I turned 24 and had a great time on my birthday: Ru San's + laser tag + whirly ball.
  • I got a promotion and a raise in January - work is absolutely insane and I love it.
  • My wonderful husband gave me a wonderful Valentine's Day: flowers + Two Urban Licks + Mets batting practice jersey.
  • I've paid down my credit cards by over $1,000.
  • I have a savings account that actually has money in it.
  • I'm in love with my new dresses.
  • I'm going to New York twice in three months - in May to be in Jackie's wedding, in July to see At the Gates.
  • METS OPENING DAY IS IN TWENTY DAYS.
  • Carla invited me to go to the Caribbean with her - I just have to buy the plane ticket!

Oakland Cemetery

Sunday before last, my mom and Jonathan picked me up to go to Candler Park Fall Festival, take pictures at Oakland Cemetery, and eat dinner at Nickiemoto's.

We parked on Sky's street to go to the festival and walked. Sky decided to come with, so that was nice since I don't see him that much these days (what with me living in Marietta and him not having a car). The festival was fun, and there was a lot of cool stuff, but I'm pretty broke. We had overpriced, overcooked gyros and water ice, and I had a beer poured down my back. Sweet! I did get the business card of this lady from Decatur who does cartoon-y animal portraits. Perhaps our furry beasts will be immortalized in her style some day.

After the Fall Fest, we said bye to Sky and headed down to Oakland Cemetery. What a daunting task it appeared to be when I first stood at the gates. The place is huge - a whopping 88 acres. At its purchase in 1850, the then 'Atlanta Graveyard' or 'City Burial Place' was only six acres. For more on its history, check out the official website maintained by The Historic Oakland Foundation. Here is the link to my flickr set. Be sure to check out the captions; I described and explained some of the things I photographed. Below are a few of my favorites (click for detail; they were uploaded at original size!): Dinner at Nickimoto's was absolutely delicious, especially after all that walking. Nothing like some $1 sushi and a good Cosmo. :]

Fall staples...

As Fall approaches (as when every Fall approaches), I get super-nervous about how I'm going to stay warm. If you know me, you know that I'm always cold and that I absolutely DREAD cold weather. I have been known to wear winter coats and not even realize how hot I'm getting until I feel like I'm about to pass out. Sweet, huh?

This season, I got a head start on a few nice staples to my impending Fall/Winter wardrobe. Of course, they all happened to be awesome deals.

My mom got these for me a couple months ago at DSW on a serious sale. They are BCBG and she got them for something obscene like 70% or 80% off of the already marked down price. Scoooore!

I scored this cutie at Aeropostale, of all places. We barely ever go in there anymore, because their stuff is basically the same handful of rehashed patterns every season. Luckily, I saw this, AND IT WAS $10! Oh, how I love gray/dark/black denim washes!
These...are the best. I love Express, but I love it most during their quarterly sales. These are The Editor Pant in Premiere Stretch with a flared leg. I haven't worn flare leg anything in ages, but goddamn do these pants look hot with the BCBG pumps.

Now I need to find some new shirts, sweaters, and jackets on the cheap!

Bjork, Amy, Knocked Up...

The Bjork pictures are trapped on my camera. I accidentally left the memory card out of the camera that night and can't find the USB cable for it. The pictures are terrible anyway since I couldn't use flash at The Fox. But yeah, whenever I can find that USB cable in the sea of crap that is my office, I'll post them.

MySpace is a son-of-a-bitch.
I recently started talking to my best friend from when I went to Wheeler, Amy Allrid (now Burkeen). We basically haven't seen each other since 1999, and we hung out for the first time on September 18th.

We went to eat Mexican food at a place on Roswell Road and then went to hang out at her house afterward. Nothing spectacular, but it was nice and we had fun. Then we hung out this past Tuesday (September 25th). We got coffee and went shopping (see story in the other blog). She met Rich last Thursday when we had her over for dinner. We ate chicken/steak quesadillas made by Chef Rich and watched Knocked Up.
I really liked Knocked Up. It got a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is insane. I've loved Seth Rogen ever since Freaks and Geeks, so I couldn't wait to see this. A lot of people hated the movie because they couldn't believe that the characters would realistically be together due to their physical appearances. Who wouldn't want to cuddle Seth Rogen? No one I want to be friends with! He's a big cuddly bear! A lot of people also hated it because they thought it was misogynistic. People need to loosen the fuck up. The humor was right up my alley.

This is a lame update as far as amount of content goes, but there will be another post about this past weekend soon...

Catching up...

Our trip down to Florida was interesting. I think this was one of the first times that Rich had been off of a major road in the South, so his reaction to rural Alabama was priceless. At one point on the way back, he literally told me to take his Mets hat off of the dashboard so we wouldn't get beat up (someone's seen Deliverance one too many times? :P).

On the way there, we stopped in Dothan, Alabama for some BBQ and I had the best chopped pork sandwich I've ever had. If you ever go through Dothan to get to the panhandle, I highly suggest stopping at Dobbs.

We took Bronson with us. He was a very good doggie, got along very well with my grandparents, and he loved hanging out with us at the pool (no doggies allowed on the beaches there :[ ). Stuff we did in Florida:

  • Went to show Rich my grandparents' other house down the street
  • Played in the pool
  • I went to water aerobics at the club with my grandma
  • Went to the beach three days in a row (where on the third day, Rich brought his cell phone into the Gulf :[ )
  • Went to a free concert in my grandparents' neighborhood
  • Went to eat at The Donut Hole for breakfast
  • Went to see Halloween at the movies (5/5!)
  • Went to have brunch at the club with my grandparents

  • Went to see one of the 2007 Southern Living Idea Homes (I'll put those pictures in the other blog)
  • Finally bought The Big Lebowski on DVD, but fell asleep watching it
  • I went to an artshow in Sandestin with my gradparents while Rich stayed behind to do Econ homework (he ended up dropping the class, though)

As if Labor Day Weekend wasn't enough fun, I inherited Braves tickets from my Office Manager the next day. After the Mets spanked the Braves over Labor Day Weekend, a lot of Braves fans kind of turned off. Therefore, I ended up with these all-you-can-eat tickets since Joe knew that I also like the Phillies.

I didn't notice where it said "LEXUS PAVILION" in caps on the tickets (durrr), so it was a surprise when we got up there. I just thought we would be in the upper deck!
Overall, it was a good game. The Phillies spanked the Braves, and Ryan Howard hit a home run in the first!

That same night, Rich picked up his new bike (he sold the crappy one soon after). The new bike is a 1994 Honda Magna VF750. It's pretty badass. I know he's enjoying it a lot more than the Suzuki he just had, and I like it a lot more than the old Kawasaki we had in Texas. Woo!

That Thursday, Rich and I went down to the city and hung out with Kevin. We ate at Savage Pizza, went to get ice cream at Zesto, and then went to say hey to Sky since it was his birthday (my little bro is 22!!!).My pizza: white garlic sauce, red peppers, and artichokes.Rich and Kevin: bears on a date.

The next night, we went to the drive-in to see 3:10 to Yuma and War. I'm a sucker for both Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, so I really enjoyed 3:10 to Yuma (4/5). There were a few silly moments, but nothing really unforgiveable. War was just plain bad. I don't know what the fuck Jet Li is thinking.

That Saturday (the 8th), we went out for Sky's birthday. We ate, played miniature golf, and rode go-karts at Startime in Roswell. We had a lot of fun. It was so cute seeing how stoked my mom was on the go-karts!Balls!Important lesson from my mom: why carry a purse when the essentials fit in your cleavage? The go-kart graveyard.Shootin mothafuckas at the saloon.

This past Friday, we went to go see a screening of Troll 2 at the Midtown Arts Theater with Kevin, Jill, Carla, Ryan, and Mike. Rich, Kevin, Jill, Laura, and I went to Fellini's for dinner beforehand. I didn't know what to expect, but the movie was wonderfully ridiculous. Definitely a 5/5.

On Saturday, my parents and grandparents came over for dinner. My grandparents were on their way to PA for some medical testing to make sure my grandpa's health is ok from the cancer, and they were staying at my mom's house for a day before doing the rest of the trip, so I suggested we have dinner at our house so that they could check out our place. We had lasagna and garlic bread that my mom made, and salad and carrot cake cupcakes that I made.

My mom also brought me my loot from Brazil. I got a pair of Havaianas (Rich got black ones), coconut bangles, little pouches with caricatures of Sugarloaf Mountain on them, and I dress I've yet to receive because she wanted to get it dry cleaned first. Score!

So life is good right now. Coming up: Bjork, catching up with an old friend, & Halloween.

Pre-vacation wrap up...

I got a ridiculous amount of stuff done around the house this past weekend. I bought the grill cover, hung one of the two pegboard pieces in the kitchen, reupholstered two of the remaining three kitchen chairs, and did every stitch of dirty laundry in the house. I just made another blog for my domestic conquests, and many of the things I mentioned will be seen there.

Comcast had Joint Security Area and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance On Demand this month, so I re-watched both so Rich could see them. They were just as, if not more amazing than I remembered, and I'm going to re-watch Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Oldboy with Rich sometime in the near future.

We also caught Bob Saget's new HBO special "That Ain't Right" and it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I had heard him a lot on Opie and Anthony and was always surprised at how dirty he was, but seeing him be that dirty for a straight hour is truly a sight to behold. And yes, he does make fun of Full House.
Gray Ghost had a show on Sunday, and it went really well. Big ups to Kevin, Jill, Eric, Charity, Ben, Laura, Vince, and JR for making the trek out to Lawrenceville! Kevin video taped their set and Brittany took pictures. Here are some of the pictures Brittany took:
Sorry to be such a picture whore, but my husband AND my brother are in this band! :]

Tonight is Behemoth (with 3 Inches of Blood, Hatebreed, and Lamb of God) at the Tabernacle. We still haven't packed for Florida and we're leaving at like 5 AM tomorrow. Whoops!

Ben and Eric went to OzzFest in North Carolina yesterday to support the dudes in Daath, and Ben took a picture of Nergal from Behemoth without his corpse paint and wearing only cargo shorts. It made me want to cry:In any event, we're off to five days of food and fun with my grandparents in Florida. We're bringing Bronson, too, and we're so excited! We leave tomorrow and will be back on Monday night.

Ta.

A non-inflammatory writ...

Thanks to Mike, I have a ticket to see Miss Joanna Newsom perform in November. She's bringing her orchestra on tour again, and it's in the theater which the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra performs.

Mike and KT have both seen her, but I've had hard luck doing so in the past. She would be in Atlanta while I was in Texas, and then when I tried to go in Austin, it sold out before I could get tickets. BUT NOW not only will I see her, I will see her with her orchestra, and I will see her with the best possible sound for the situation.
AMAZING.

Balancing academia, domesticity, and fabulousness.

My transfer credits have all gone through for my online classes. I was pissed off at how little I got (58 out of 99 hours), but when it was explained to me it sounded a lot better. I'm basically getting a complete GPA makeover because I'm a transfer student and my prior GPA doesn't count. Talk about a second chance (although this means I still have about two years left).

Even though I don't start until October, I've already picked World War II history and Human Sexuality for this session. World War II will give me an opportunity to learn more about the war in the Pacific (because, as everyone knows, I've always been obsessed with the Nazi aspect of the war). Human Sexuality seems like it will be a simple social psych class. Score.

I just started reading Deathbeds, and quite frankly, I'm not nearly as interested or impressed with the new poetry as I am with the prose he included. Stupid asshole kids are buying this for over $140 on ebay because it was limited to 1000 copies. I don't know whether I hate the people selling them on ebay or the idiots who will actually shell out that much money for a book they can borrow from their brother (as I am) more. I don't know...I'll expound upon this when I'm finished with it.

The house has been coming along quite well. The office and two bedrooms actually look like an office and two bedrooms. The office, which is the smallest room in the house, now looks BIG to me when I'm in it. All clothing, save a small pile of my things and a large pile of Rich's things, is put away.

Projects coming up:
  • Refinish dresser, vanity, three mirrors, and two tables
  • Construct a pegboard organizational system in the kitchen for pots, pans, and utensils
  • Finish reupholstering the chairs in the kitchen
  • Buy the spoon rest that matches my Fiesta Ware - I am sick of looking at the shitty one on the stove
  • Buy a cover for the badass grill

My mom's cat will be staying with us while she's in Brasil. We picked him up last night, and he is not pleased with his situation. All of my babies want to meet him so badly, but he hasn't left the safety that is under-the-bed since I brought him into my room last night.

This is him in the window sill:
My optometrist appointment got moved to today, so I will probably be ordering the glasses this evening. I tried them on at Lens Crafters on Monday, and they were just as amazing in person as I thought they were in pictures. Rich hates them and thinks they are gaudy (which seems to be the general consensus among males) , but every female I know thinks they're wonderful. I must have fabulousness on my face.

That is all.
